Welcome to the fifth installation of the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program in Newcastle! Our program continues to grow, and this term will be the best yet! If you’re new or if you’ve been here a while, the start of term is the best time to think about how you can help to make this term truly memorable while also helping to make
a difference. One way is to join the Global Scholars Medical Society. So what IS the GSMS????

The GSMS is the only SGU-affiliated society in the Northumbria University Students Union. It’s a club for us, run by us, that gives us the freedom to explore the issues that matter most to us. The goal of the GSMS is to promote awareness about the KBT-GSP through community action and provide insight into the field of international medicine through education and volunteering initiatives. As a member of the GSMS, you will be eligible to join PHR, IPH and the SGU Surgical Society, as well as create or join any new club we create through the KBT-GSP. We have also been accepted as the newest branch of MEDSIN through Newcastle University's School of Medicine.

The conference is going to take place at University Place, Oxford Road, Manchester.

Tickets are available on the website www.ghc09.org for £25 for students and £35 for non-students; you are required to pay for the tickets yourselves.

Physicians for Human Rights

The goal of Physicians for Human Rights is to advance medical students' understanding and commitment to the right to health and to cultivate skills as advocates for health and human rights locally, nationally, and globally. We hope to raise awareness of relevant human rights issues through film screenings, focused campaigns and exhibits, and partnerships with community and school human rights groups. SGU Surgical Society

The SGU Surgical Society introduces all interested students to the academic and clinical aspects of all accredited sub-specialties of surgical medicine. We create awareness of groundbreaking techniques through presentations, workshops and specialty-specific guest speakers in a structured group discussion setting. Bible Study

The SGU Bible Study is a non-denominational, student-led Bible study. We are currently studying the Gospel of Luke. Our weekly meetings are an informal time to worship, pray, and to discuss books in the Bible with other students. Discussions are geared towards how the books of the Bible are applicable to our personal lives and our future lives as physicians. Everyone is welcome.
